Combined Training, 6th April 2003
Ayr Riding Club held another in their popular Combined Training competitions at Muirmill International Centre on Sunday 6th April. The usual format was followed with jumping in the morning and dressage in the afternoon with the two counting towards the combined training. The jumping was dominated by Melanie Scott who with her athletic horse Gem won both classes. Melanie, who was joint winner of the jumping points in 2002 stormed home in record time for maximum points and two Easter eggs! In second place in the 2'6" class was the other 2002 points winner Kirsty Greig who tried for Melanie's time but couldn't make it. She had to settle for third place in the 3' class when a brave try to beat Mel's time was had by Jill Offer and Frizby. These close run results mean there are only 3 points separating Kirsty and Melanie. Third place in the 2'6" class went to Alveen Kerr on Muirsland Honey-B who also took 5th in the 3'. Lillias McKirdy and Millie were 4th and recent recruit Ruth Young and Kinetic were 5th. Kara Craig and Sir Andromedor placed 6th. In the 3' class previous Chairman of the Club Jane Belding and Rosella made a strong attempt to place 4th and Sharon Urquart and Ceilidh were 6th.
Jill's success continued with first place in the Dressage and Open Combined training. Frizby is a regular competitor in Riding Club Horse Trials classes. Vicky Dalrymple earned three second places with her two horses, Falcon Lord (Novice) and Masquerade (Open). Press Officer Elana Chilton was double third with Club Chairman Sheena Targell-Worth fourth with Trust Topper, making his 2003 debut after injury. Irene Gillespie and Woody made a successful move up to the Open class with 6th place in the dressage and 5th place in the combined training. Vice Chairman Tina Hazlem completed the dressage placings with third place on Ali Boswell's Basil. Sixth place in the CT went to Jane and Rosella.
In the Novice CT Kara Craig and Sir Andromedor were first with Lauren Hood and Scallywag in second. This means that Lauren moves up to second place in the yearly points. Lillias and Millie were fourth.
