Ayr RC - Ride out above Fairlie
On
a warm and sunny day we set out from the farmers market car park adjacent to
the Fencebay Fisheries restaurant, just off the Fairlie to Largs road.
There were about 15 horses and one pony on a lead rein, all raring to go!
After a steep climb up the steep quiet back road to Dalry we went off-road into the estate and headed along a track, with the hills rising up to one side and fabulous panoramic views over to Arran, the Cumbraes and up the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Bute on the other.
After a while the track climbed quite steeply and we made a good pace up and back along the top of the hill, arriving back, hot but in one piece.
We enjoyed a picnic in the sun before some of us went to the delicatessen at the restaurant and spent too much on local honey, pate, fish etc. The gift shop at the restaurant is also well worth a visit.
The ride out was very kindly organised by Mugs and took about 2 hours. All were made welcome.
