A Short History of Ayr Riding Club
Ayr Riding Club was formed in 1958, based at Castlehill Stables and was originally known as "Ayr Riding School Club". In 1958 the club had 12 adult members who paid an annual subscription of £2 10/- (or £2.50 to the post decimalisation people amongst you !)
In a letter to the British Horse Society the secretary, Norma Sichi, enclosed a postal order for 12/- (60p) to cover the affiliation fees for the 12 adult members. She also stated that the club had "several members who are under 17 years of age - children who frequent the stable and are anxious to avail themselves of the advantages of the club".
Those juniors, who paid a reduced subscription of 30/- (£1.50) per year, must now all be in their fifties (or more) - where are you now? - If you were one of them, why not contact the present committee and tell us about ARC in the early days?
