What to wear? - Competitions - Horse Trials / Hunter Trials
These are additional rules that apply to Horse Trials, Hunter Trials also follow the Cross-Country phase.
Dressage Phase
Rider
- Gloves - are compulsory
Horse
- Breast Plates - are permitted
- Forbidden - bit guards, tongue straps, neckstraps, martingales, boots and bandages (except substitute for a conventional shoe)
Show Jumping Phase
Rider
- Show Jumping Shirts are permitted
Horse
- Bits - Senior competitors may use a hackamore
- Bit Guards - if rubber and smooth on both sides
are allowed
- Tongue Guards - are permitted if properly made
and detatched from reins
- Breastplates and Neckstraps -
are allowed
- Martingales - a running martingale with stops fitted to the reins or an Irish martingale are permitted
Cross Country Phase / Hunter Trials
Rider
- Body Protector - obligatory for cross-country
- Must be approved to Class 3
- Must be approved to Class 3
- Medical Armbands - are compulsory
- Hats - may be checked and tagged to ensure they are to the correct standard
- Timing Equipment - watches capable of being
started, stopped and recording time are forbidden in one-day events
- Spurs - with necks in excess of 3.5cm are
not to be worn
- Polo neck sweaters may be worn
Horse
